March for Our Lives Highlights: Students Protesting Guns Say ‘Enough Is Enough’

By the New York Times

While reading this article describing the outcomes of the March For Our Lives protests that broke out all over the world, the New York Times informs the reader about the impact and meaning these protests had for the world. One thing that stood out to me was how widespread the cause was: “More than 800 protests were planned in every American state, including in some gun-friendly cities, and on every continent except for Antarctica, according to a website set up by organizers” (The New York Times). Another topic the article seemed to stress was the purpose surrounding the marches. The students from Stoneman Douglas, the school that suffered a school shooting in February, want to spread awareness about gun violence. They believe there should be thorough background checks when it comes to buying guns, and assault rifles should be banned.

I chose to write about the March For Our Lives because it is a topic that I find very relevant over the past few months. I found this article while searching about it. In regards to the contents of the article, I think it is truly inspiring how so many kids stepped out and voiced their opinions about gun control. Also, I agree that something should be done to make it harder for someone to buy a gun. I think the laws should change with the constantly changing world they are meant to protect.

  1. I really like this post and I think you chose a trustworthy source. I agree that tougher gun restrictions need to be made and I also think archaic laws should be updated, because the world is always changing. Good job and this is very well written!

ATDPTI Response

So far, I am really enjoying The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. Reading it during the writing process of our research papers really relieves the stress of it all. One thing that I find very interesting about this book is the use of humor. I like that the book is funny but i also think that it is interesting how the author uses humor to discuss more serious topics. However, I think it is fitting for the narrator of this book because of his age. While reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, I think it is very interesting how it is written in a diary-like format. If it was written like a regular book, it wouldn’t be nearly as good because you couldn’t see inside Junior’s head as he develops through his journey. Like the writing format, I also think that the pictures add a lot to the development of Junior as a character. In a novel format, the narrator could say that Junior wants to be a cartoon artist, but showing the cartoons themselves really empha...

Fall Break

Fall break is one of my favorite times of the year because it gives me time to relax and do whatever I want. My break started off with having a friend over to spend the night. While she was over, we went to the Episcopal football game and met up with some people there. We stayed until the very end and cheered on the Knights. After the game, we went back to my house and watched some movies.        The next day, we went to the mall. It was so much fun because we got to walk around and shop. One of my favorite stores at the mall is Sephora. We went to Sephora and tested all of the newest make-up and skin care products. After a long day of shopping, we went to the food court and got some ice cream. Once we had both gotten home, I spent the next few days relaxing and taking a break from school.

Concert

This summer, my family and I went on a huge road trip to North Carolina and Washington DC. While we were in the car, we always listened to John Mayer's new album, the Search for Everything. As we listened to it more and more, my whole family started to really love it, and we associated it with our summer. We would listen to it in the car, at cook outs, and just around the house.        As our summer came to an end, my mom asked us if we wanted to go to his concert. I wasn't super excited about it because it was the night before orientation day, so I decided not to go. School was nearing and my sister, Emily, was so excited for the concert, but I didn't want summer to end. The day before orientation day, I went to go get a hair cut, and when I was done it was around 4 pm. My mom asked my on the way home, "Do you want to go to the John Mayer concert?" I was so confused because my sister was about to leave in thirty minutes, and I didn't kno...
