Dear 10 Year Old

Dear Ten year-old, embrace everyone around you, and make lots of friends. When I was young, everyone I met became my friend. No matter how old they were or what they looked like, if they would be my friend I would be theirs. Although when I grew older, I became more secluded and had only a few friends. I wouldn't talk to people I didn't know and I didn't make many new friends. Now that I'm older, I know that having lots of friends is important. You have lots of people you can turn to and just have fun with.

Another piece of advise is to try new things. My parents always told me, "You'll never know unless you try,". A time I wish I had thought about this was when my friend had just invited me to the beach, but I turned it down because I was very tired from a trip I had just gotten back from. I saw how much fun they were having and I still regret not going. I now try and go to new places or take part in new activities, and if I don't like it, I know that I tried.

  1. Great advice that all adults seem to tell us, so it must be true. Overall, great pieces of advice for everyone.

This weekend, my friends and I went ice-skating. The whole week before, we had planned it out, and we were all so excited. Whenever we drove to the rink, there were so many cars and I was under the impression that it was going to be so crowded. I was quite disappointed because I knew it wouldn't be as much fun if there were loads of people there. As we walked inside, I felt the air grow colder and I immediately got so much more excited.        I put on my skates and I went onto the ice. To my surprise, the ice skating rink was not crowded and I knew I would have fun. When I stepped onto the ice, I realized I hadn't skated in what felt like years. I practiced along the edges until I could finally do it on my own. My friends and I were having so much fun, we didn't even realize the time. We were all so upset  at the fact that is was time to go. So, we all took off our skates, and we knew that we would come back soon.

ATDPTI Response

So far, I am really enjoying The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. Reading it during the writing process of our research papers really relieves the stress of it all. One thing that I find very interesting about this book is the use of humor. I like that the book is funny but i also think that it is interesting how the author uses humor to discuss more serious topics. However, I think it is fitting for the narrator of this book because of his age. While reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, I think it is very interesting how it is written in a diary-like format. If it was written like a regular book, it wouldn’t be nearly as good because you couldn’t see inside Junior’s head as he develops through his journey. Like the writing format, I also think that the pictures add a lot to the development of Junior as a character. In a novel format, the narrator could say that Junior wants to be a cartoon artist, but showing the cartoons themselves really empha...

Fall Break

Fall break is one of my favorite times of the year because it gives me time to relax and do whatever I want. My break started off with having a friend over to spend the night. While she was over, we went to the Episcopal football game and met up with some people there. We stayed until the very end and cheered on the Knights. After the game, we went back to my house and watched some movies.        The next day, we went to the mall. It was so much fun because we got to walk around and shop. One of my favorite stores at the mall is Sephora. We went to Sephora and tested all of the newest make-up and skin care products. After a long day of shopping, we went to the food court and got some ice cream. Once we had both gotten home, I spent the next few days relaxing and taking a break from school.
