Song

Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus

I chose “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus to analyze for my blog post. Towards the very beginning, I noticed that she says, “Hopped off the plane at LAX”. The “O” sound in “Hopped” and “off” are the same, this is an example of an assonance. I also found an alliteration when she says, “My tummy's turnin'”. The corresponding T’s create this sound pattern.

She uses a metaphor in the chorus when she says, “and the butterflies fly away”. She is referring to when someone has “butterflies in their stomach” and she says this to say that she is comfortable now. During the bridge of the song, I noticed a lot of repeating vowel sounds, causing an assonance.
Feel like hoppin' on a flight (On a flight)
Back to my hometown tonight (Town tonight)
This helps this verse have an ease to it to lead the song into the last chorus.

ATDPTI Response

So far, I am really enjoying The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. Reading it during the writing process of our research papers really relieves the stress of it all. One thing that I find very interesting about this book is the use of humor. I like that the book is funny but i also think that it is interesting how the author uses humor to discuss more serious topics. However, I think it is fitting for the narrator of this book because of his age. While reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, I think it is very interesting how it is written in a diary-like format. If it was written like a regular book, it wouldn’t be nearly as good because you couldn’t see inside Junior’s head as he develops through his journey. Like the writing format, I also think that the pictures add a lot to the development of Junior as a character. In a novel format, the narrator could say that Junior wants to be a cartoon artist, but showing the cartoons themselves really empha...

Concert

This summer, my family and I went on a huge road trip to North Carolina and Washington DC. While we were in the car, we always listened to John Mayer's new album, the Search for Everything. As we listened to it more and more, my whole family started to really love it, and we associated it with our summer. We would listen to it in the car, at cook outs, and just around the house.        As our summer came to an end, my mom asked us if we wanted to go to his concert. I wasn't super excited about it because it was the night before orientation day, so I decided not to go. School was nearing and my sister, Emily, was so excited for the concert, but I didn't want summer to end. The day before orientation day, I went to go get a hair cut, and when I was done it was around 4 pm. My mom asked my on the way home, "Do you want to go to the John Mayer concert?" I was so confused because my sister was about to leave in thirty minutes, and I didn't kno...
